The challenge

Stjernegaard Rejser arranges tailor-made trips to selected countries around the world.

We have had a close collaboration with Stjernegaard Rejser for many years. During this time, their website "stjernegaard-rejser.dk" has evolved from being a digital travel catalog to a solution that guides the customer in assembling their trip online.

Most recently, we were tasked with building a new solution, where the backend was adapted to current workflows, and where the frontend became more engaging for visitors through the use of video and animation.

"We wanted to invest in the development of a new website based on a modern platform. With Umbraco 10, it is possible to integrate with third-party systems, allowing us to get 'immediate' confirmation of flights, hotels, transport, and excursions.

With the new website, we will have the opportunity for design/UX changes based on ribbons, rather than the widgets that the old site was based on. Additionally, we can insert video/image animations in the top slider and header photos.

Such a website will greatly contribute to the necessary transition to a more dynamic and visually engaging site, which will ensure the company's future growth."

Stjernegaard's Digital Journey

Previously, "stjernegaard-rejser.dk" was a place where customers could get inspired by trips to various destinations and then fill out a form with their preferences for dates, participants, and budget. One of Stjernegaard's travel consultants would then, in dialogue with the customer, create the trip and send an offer.

The website has since been transformed into a platform where customers can more independently tailor their own trip online. These trips often include multiple destinations, with choices for hotels, excursions, etc. for each destination. The design and UX were aimed at being inspiring and providing an overview, as well as guiding the customer intuitively through the various options and selections.

In the fall of 2023, we went live with the latest solution for Stjernegaard Rejser.

The solution

We built a new website for Stjernegaard Rejser with a modern user interface tailored to the needs of the customers, and a backend that matches the employees' workflows.

We handled the development, while Kathrine Zøllner took care of the design and UX.

Stjernegaard Rejser now has a flexible and user-friendly CMS solution built on Umbraco 10.

The new website features a lot of video content, as well as text and still images that move as the user scrolls down the page. This makes selected elements more eye-catching and the overall user experience more dynamic.

A significant portion of visitors view the site on mobile devices, so it was important to create a solution with functionality designed specifically for mobile use, rather than just adapting the desktop view.

The solution also offers new possibilities for employees when setting up pages. For example, sliders with mood images or content like hotel information can be added, allowing for more varied page designs with horizontally interchangeable content.

Advanced Search

On the new website, it’s now easier and more user-friendly to search for a trip, and in the backend, employees have the ability to create filters and assign them to one or more pages.

The available options are customized based on the page the user is on and the selections they make.

It’s clear for the user to see which criteria have already been selected, making it easier to adjust the search if they didn’t find exactly what they were looking for.

Stjernegaard Rejser is a medium-sized and well-established Danish-owned travel agency that has been in operation for more than 30 years.

They offer guided tours with a Danish tour leader as well as individual/customized trips to selected destinations.

Stjernegaard Rejser is part of the Danish-owned travel group Aller Leisure A/S, which also includes Nyhavn Rejser.

Since the launch of the new website, Stjernegaard's SEO ranking has improved:

  • Organic visibility has increased by 26% across nearly 1,000 keywords

  • The average position has improved by 5%

  • The number of top-3 rankings has risen by 26.2%, now at 33.4%

They have never ranked better on their priority 1 keywords:

  • Organic visibility has increased by 22% across over 100 selected keywords

  • The average position has improved by 10%

  • The number of top-3 rankings has risen from 43.2% to 59.5%
