Telenor & DNA Seamless merger of Microsoft environments for unified collaboration

Telenor acquired DNA in 2019, and although DNA continued its operations in Finland, both companies needed a unified Microsoft Office 365 environment. Their goal was to operate efficiently as one company and improve communication between business units. DNA’s subsidiary, DNA Kauppa, used Google G Suite, which created challenges in maintaining multiple systems and communication channels. Migrating users from different environments required careful planning for access rights, user support, equivalent tools, and minimizing business disruption.

The project merged DNA’s and Telenor’s Microsoft-based information systems into Telenor’s international Office 365 environment. DNA Kauppa’s Google G Suite users were also migrated into the same ecosystem. Context& acted as a close partner, architecting the migration plan and coordinating with Telenor and Finnish stakeholders. Their consultants planned the phases, set common practices, and used specialized tools to transfer numerous user-specific items efficiently. Context& handled the technically demanding parts of the migration and supported the organizations throughout the process.

The migration enabled both companies to collaborate within a single Office 365 ecosystem, significantly improving communication and business operations. The first step, connecting communication channels, was completed smoothly without disrupting daily work. DNA Kauppa managed the largest change but transitioned successfully. The merged environment also introduced Telenor’s data security practices to DNA employees, who received them positively. Overall, the project progressed efficiently with readiness for change and minimal disruptions.
